There is a possibility that Tamil superstar and founder-president of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), Kamal Haasan, might contest the 2024 general elections from the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency.
According to high-level sources within MNM, the decision to allocate the Coimbatore seat to Kamal Haasan stems from his impressive performance in the 2021 assembly elections, where he put up a commendable fight against BJP’s Vanathi Srinivasan, despite losing by a narrow margin of 1,728 votes.
On Sunday, Kamal Haasan inaugurated the ‘Makkalodu Maiyam’ state-level campaign in the Coimbatore South assembly constituency.
MNM plans to meet people in all 234 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, engaging with them at the party’s ward and panchayat levels to understand their concerns and issues, which were overlooked by local representatives in their respective areas.
According to a senior party leader, based on the feedback gathered from these interactions, MNM will formulate its election manifesto.
The party has provided every ward secretary with a list of 25 binary questions related to basic amenities in their areas through a Google Form, aiming to get a clear picture of the ground reality in each constituency.
Earlier, the Coimbatore district officials of the party had already requested him to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Coimbatore seat.
Kamal Haasan Gifted a car to bus driver.
Recently, Kamal Haasan gifted a car to Tamil Nadu’s bus driver, Sharmila, who was dismissed from her job after a dispute with DMK leader Kanimozhi over bus fare. Appreciated as a step to gain popularity in the region, he invited Sharmila to his Chennai residence and presented her with a new car to ease her daily commute in Coimbatore.

This gesture by him to gift a car to Sharmila, a resident of Coimbatore, is also seen as a move to further enhance his popularity in the area as Tamil superstar.”
